I remember my first time going to the festival. It was when it first opened in 1978! I haven’t been out there since 1997 and have really wanted to take Ellie. I am a fan of Twig the Fairy on Facebook and Ellie just loves looking at her pictures. She was sooo excited to be able to meet her.
When we first got there we decided to go to Twig’s booth first to see if she was there. We initially could not find her booth and I was thinking that perhaps we would not find Twig as the festival has gotten really big and there were performers everywhere. Giving up the search, we went to find something to eat and came upon a beautiful blue fairy who was making bubbles. Ellie was fascinated when the fairy gave her a yellow gem! We then were fortunate enough to find a table to sit at and got something to eat. Ellie loved her “squire dog” and root beer and having a hot cinnamon twist put her over the top!
We were just getting ready to head back to Twig’s booth (she had a time that she was scheduled to be there) when my friend Mark pointed out that she was RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!
Ellie was so excited to see her! She very shyly went over to her and Twig gave her a blue fairy stone coated with fairy glitter!
I have never see my little girl clutch something so closely! She ran back over to the In Step to find the yellow jewel that the other fairy had given her! She grabbed it up and carefully walked back to Twig holding it out in her hand for Twig to take.
Twig held it in her hand with a surprised look on her face and then smiled and played a tune on her flute and my little girl quickly ran over to me and hid her head by my legs while looking shyly over to Twig!
She couldn’t stop looking at Twig! We finally moved on to go and see the Tortuga Twins show and to take in some more people watching.
If you have never been to a Renaissance Festival, I highly recommend that you go. The food is wonderful and there is so much to see and do. My little bug got to see Elephants – she calls them Ephelants! and goats, baby puppies, camels and piggies! She loved riding a pony called “Big Red” and even picked out her own fairy outfit!
We were able to see Twig two more times. The second time we saw her just outside her booth area and Ellie had to quickly put on her fairy outfit to show Twig! It was so precious watching her run over to Twig and slowly turn her back so that Twig could see her wings! Twig was so impressed that she gave her a beautiful blue glass leaf fairy stone which was clutched tightly in her little fist until she could come and show it to me. The last time was as we left.
Before that we had run into a booth were a lady was painting faces. Ellie was excited to have her face painted as well . The lady painted a beautify fairy face on my little bug! She just loved it! When we saw that Twig was around as we were leaving Ellie said to me “I need a HUG from Twig MOM!” and ran over to show Twig her fairy face and to get a hug! She got a hug from Twig and a white fairy stone! What a wonderful day for my little girl! Absolutely PRICELESS!
