The Narrows, South Willow Canyon, Grantsville, Utah
Were you ever in a sunset? Not looking at a sunset, beautiful and radiant in the west. But actually in the middle of one. Down in the valley people are looking up and saying, “Oh, see the lovely sunset!” But up here in our mountains we are in it—the sunset is all around us, glowing, and changing our world into a beauty that cannot be described. The sky , the cloud-covered, is very bright and casts a brilliant glow upon the earth beneath. Every peak stands out sharply etched against the sky, and seems much nearer. Every color is brighter—the grass is brilliantly greener, brown bushes on the hillside are a deep red, but the firs and junipers are dark contrast. We look in amazement at familiar dry sagebrush mountains into a shining fairyland.

I never met my Grandma Flora, but what a joy to be able to read her journal. To read her words and realize that I have had those same thoughts when I spent summers in the mountains. Our world is full of beauty that some don’t see because they don’t take the time to slow down and look around them.
